Alex Salvador
Alex Salvador is a musician and Drum Circle Facilitator based in Townsville North Queensland where he has lived since 1987.
He is best known for founding the longest ongoing local council funded Community Drum Circle in Australia – the Full Moon Drum Circle, founded in 2001 and funded by the Townsville City Council since 2005.
After 28 years of working full-time with migrants and refugees (1995 – 2003) and with International Students at James Cook University (2003-2023) while working as a musician afterhours, Alex has switched to a full-time career in music, drum circle facilitation, drumming workshops, drum building and sound immersion sessions as of July 2023.
Having studied under various African drumming teachers in Australia and Guinea West Africa, Alex holds regular courses in West African drumming on djembe and dunduns. He was the group leader of the Townsville based African drumming group “Wassa” from 2001 – 2017 and current group leader of the Townsville Drum Collective since 2017
