Townsville Folk Club and Amnesty International Songwriting Competitions
Townsville Folk Festival is proud to host both the 2024 Townsville Folk Club Songwriting Competition and the 2024 Amnesty International Human Rights Songwriting Competition.
These competitions will be held concurrently at the Sessions Stage on Sunday 9 June between 10:15am and 11:45am Entrants are required to place their name and song title on the blackboard (beside the Session Stage) assigned for the competition they wish to enter up to an hour before the competition commences. One song per act per competition.
The 2021 Amnesty International Human Rights Songwriting Competition requires entries to fit the theme of Human Rights
The 2024 Amnesty International Human Rights Songwriting Competition requires entries to fit the theme of Human Rights. Possible subjects include
• Refugee Rights
• End The Death Penalty
• Anti-racism
• Women’s Rights
• Protect Protest
• Indigenous Justice
• Political prisoners
• Climate Justice
• LGBTQIA+ Rights

This competition carries a prize of $150 for first place, as well as two $50 runner-up prizes.
The 2024 Townsville Folk Club Songwriting Competition has no subject requirements and also carries a prize of $150 for first place, as well as two $50 runner-up prizes.
Both competitions will be adjudicated by an expert panel appointed by the Townsville Folk Festival Programming Crew.
Winners will be announced and invited to perform at the festival’s Closing Ceremony on Sunday afternoon.
